Second crowdfunding record: funded within 20 minutes!

A Rocket-Powered Launch for Zurich-Made Space Watch Collection MACH 33

With its new collection of watches made from authentic rocket material, Zurich-based start-up Werenbach has achieved a Swiss record on the international crowdfunding platform The target of 40,000 francs was achieved within just 20 minutes –the hype was created by a new quartz watch with an integrated microchip, which can establish a connection to space.

Werenbach’s trajectory to becoming an international watch brand has relied firmly on its fans, who have just funded a new collection for the second time. Not only that, but they set a record in doing so: the necessary 40,000 Swiss francs were collected in the first 20 minutes.

790 watches in a week

This was thanks to a newsletter that spread the word to the brand’s fans. “For us, cooperation with our community is an essential part of what we do. We know that we have many supporters who identify strongly with our brand. To ensure that all of them – from students to pensioners – can afford our watches, we made the decision to branch out into a new price bracket. The MACH 33 is the culmination of our efforts to launch a range of watches costing less than 500 francs – and the community’s reaction has shown that this was exactly the development they were waiting for,” says Patrick Hohmann, CEO of Werenbach, about the crowdfunding success.

A connection with space

Like all other watches from the Werenbach workshop, the new MACH 33 collection contains unaltered material from genuine space rockets. But unlike Werenbach’s premium mechanical models, in which – depending on the collection – either the face or the entire casing is made from rocket material, the watches of the MACH 33 collection incorporate the rocket material as small decorative plates on the watch face. The new battery-powered line also has a built-in microchip that enables the ISS live stream to be accessed via the watch on the user’s smartphone.

Werenbach was founded by Patrick Hohmann in Zurich in 2012. The first collection and accompanying novel, which was written by Patrick and inspired by his experiences, came to life in a tiny workshop in Zurich’s Old Town. Werenbach made its first venture into the international market in 2017 with the help of a successful crowdfunding project.
